Next time you're headed to your local highland games, you'll have a chance to wear your favorite Washington State University tartan. Three sets of plaid are being designed by students to celebrate the crimson and gray - coincidentally those are the colors chosen. The designs will be put to vote to choose the best for the market place.
The project is meant to provide revenue for student scholarships, but also help students get real world experience. The designs are being put together in-house by students from the Department of Apparel, Merchandising, Design and Textiles.
WSU professor Karen Leonas has been working with the students on the project since late spring. She says there will be a limited product line available online and in stores at Homecoming, but by Apple Cup they should have an expanded product line of lanyards, scarves, wine coolers, etc.
Leonas added that kilts will have to be a special order.
A similar project was tasked by the University of Alabama in 2010. Their tartan bleeds crimson as well and attracted over 410,000 votes.
