Corrections officer treated for injuries after attack

A Whitman County Corrections Officer suffered facial injuries yesterday after after an inmate attacked him at the Whitman County Jail.

According to the sheriff's office, 26-year-old Kerry Morrison charged the officer in a surprise attack during a meal service in a maximum security unit, punching him several times in the face.

"The Corrections Officer who was assaulted along with a second Corrections Officer worked to subdue Morrison and stop the attack from continuing. Deputies from the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office as well as a Colfax Police Officer responded to the jail to assist," according to a news release.

Morrison is currently being held in jail in lieu of a $25,000 bond for allegedly leading police on a high speed pursuit on February 18th, and was placed in segregation awaiting administrative action. Additional charges for Custodial Assault, a Class C Felony, have been forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor's Office.
