7th Palouse Cares food drive was huge success | Community Spirit
Hundreds of volunteers braved the cold on December 7th for the annual Palouse Cares food drive. The 10 participating Palouse communities brought in more than 38,000 pounds of food.
For seven years, Palouse Cares has hosted the food drive and auction across the Palouse. The food gathered in each community goes to food banks in those areas. Despite wind chill warnings and some of the lowest temperatures of the year, hundreds of volunteers went door to door collecting food. This year they gathered 38,000 pounds.
Silent and lives auctions were held at the East Side Marketplace in Moscow and Zeppoz and Mr. Z’s Casino in Pullman. A silent auction in Colfax brought in nearly $1,300 on it’s own. Together, all three auctions brought in $35,000 for local food banks and other local charities.
Since 2006, Palouse Cares has donated 200,000 pounds of food and $178,000 to food banks and charities. This year, both Pullman and Moscow declared December 7th Palouse Cares Day.
