Ferdinand's Expanding! |

One of the most popular spots on the WSU-Pullman campus is getting a makeover, expanding to make room for its loyal customers.
Ferdinand's Ice Cream Shoppe is adding 300 square feet of retail space. WSU says the goal is to streamline operations and improve customer flow. Construction starts next week and is expected to be complete in early June.
"We hope the majority of work can be done with minimal impact to our customers,” said supervisor Eric Needham.
Ferdinand's will gain space by enclosing an outside patio. They'll also be adding new floors and walls and a full-length bar along the north wall of the addition.
The project, funded by profits from the sales of cheese and ice cream, will slow down service and will even shut things down completely over spring break.
"If all goes well, we’ll be back in business on Monday, March 18,” Needham said.
Ferdinand's hopes the customers will see the short-term inconvenience as a means to an end; that end, being quicker access to delicious ice cream treats in the future.
"During extra-busy days, like home football game days, we have long lines because of the cramped arrangement,” Needham said. "We are optimistic that moving our ice cream cases and cash registers will make a more streamlined operation and enable us to move customers through the line more quickly.”
